Advanced Facial Rejuvenation Techniques with Implants

“Recent studies show that facial bones deteriorate as people age. However, my facial implants counteract this phenomenon and offer hope to those with facial aging.”    -Oscar Ramirez, M.D.

I believe that a well-known phrase, “Beauty is Only Skin Deep”, is a concept that only addresses superficial matters of beauty. Do you agree ? Hold that thought as I elaborate:

To me, beauty defined in this way pales in comparison with deeper values such as integrity, loyalty and strength.  Now, I base this belief on many years of plastic surgery training and practice. For this reason you could say that “I practice what I preach”. The point I am really referring to is that my “gospel” contradicts that of beauty only being skin deep! Instead, I believe that Beauty is Bone Deep!

The concept of “Beauty is Bone Deep” is bolstered by a recent study performed at the University of Rochester. This study confirmed the disintegration of facial bone as a result of normal aging. The University of Rochester study (recently reviewed by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons) also revealed that our facial features shrink as our height shrinks with age!

The face is divided roughly into thirds, with the eyes and forehead occupying the top third, the cheeks and nose in the middle and the mouth and jaw line in the bottom third. When any of those sections are out of balance with the other two, the facial appearance is not as preferred, according to our anthropological and biological insights.

To achieve this balance, I have created specific facial implants to treat patients with imbalances. One such set of implants that I invented, to enhance the jawline, is called the mandibular matrix system. The mandibular matrix system is made of special porous material. This system creates a larger, symmetrical jawline. Insertion takes place under the chin through a small one inch incision. Ultimately, the purpose of the mandibular matrix is to improve a weak jawline which translates to a more youthful appearance . Individuals with larger bone structures will age much more gracefully than their smaller bone structure counterparts.

In addition to the mandibular matrix system, I have created other procedures and implants that enhance facial symmetry which, in turn, tightens the skin creating a more youthful look. These other techniques and materials I use can address the upper orbit of the eyes, under the eyes, the cheeks and around the chin in an area called the “pre-jowl.”
